NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.- Saint Peter's University softball senior
Courtney Fraher (Greenwich, N.Y.) and sophomore
Dakota Pitts (Abington, Md.) drove in two runs each in the nightcap as the Peacocks split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Iona University. The Gaels won the opener 4-3, while the Peacocks took the nightcap 6-3.

The Peacocks move at 28-18 and 7-9 in the MAAC while the Gaels stand at 16-27-1 and 8-8 in conference play.

Iona got on the board with three runs in the third inning of game one. Saint Peter's closed the gap in the fourth inning as freshman
Tai Turner (Havre De Grace, Md.) blasted a two-run homerun to cut the score to 3-2.

The Gaels added to their lead with a run in their half of the fourth. The Peacocks rallied in the seventh as senior
Samantha Miller (Penetanguishene, Ontario) lifted a sacrifice fly to score a run but Saint Peter's comeback fell short.

In the nightcap, Saint Peter's took the early lead with four runs over the first two innings. Pitts doubled in a run in the first inning, while Fraher singled in two runs in the second inning. Senior
Cara McNulty (Middletown, N.J.) added a run scoring single in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

Iona got two runs back in their half of the second to cut the score to 4-2.

The Peacocks took advantage of a Gael error in the fourth to add to their lead, while Pitts drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to push their lead to 6-2. The Gaels rallied in the seventh, scoring one run but starter graduate
Sydney Senerchia (Northford, Conn.) closed the door on the comeback to pick up her 16th win of the season.

Serenchia tossed a complete game, allowing three unearned runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

The Peacocks return home to take on Manhattan College in a MAAC doubleheader on Wednesday, May 3 at 1 pm at Jaroschak Field.Â
