NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell short Thursday morning to Iona by a score of 67-62.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh opened up the floor Thursday morning with a driving layup assisted by Graduate Student Mikia Keith to start the game. Janneh was the lead scorer for the Peacocks this morning, securing 28 points and her career high.
During the first quarter, Janneh had a total of 10 points for the squad. She went 5-of-9 in 3-pointers for the game. Junior forward Layla Laws shot beyond the 3-point arc, leaving the score 17-12 in favor of the Peacocks after the first quarter.
Freshman center Carys Roy started off the second quarter with two layups that added four additional points for the Peacocks. Roy had a total of eight points in the second quarter. As the game approached the half, the score was 36-25 Gaels.
After falling short at halftime, the Peacocks fought hard in the third quarter. Laws shot beyond the 3-point arc, bringing the score 39-36 Gaels. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 54-45. Ultimately, the Peacocks fell behind in the fourth quarter and were unable to overcome the deficit.
Roy carried the squad with 10 points, along with Laws contributing nine points. Roy shot 5-of-6 from the floor. The squad shot 47.1% from the floor. The Peacocks had a total of 26 rebounds and nine steals.

Following this game, the Peacocks return home where the squad takes on Mount St. Mary's. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm on Thursday, January 25th. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
