NEWARK, The Saint Peter's cross country team competed in the Metropolitan Championships over the weekend at Branch Brook Park. The SPU men's team finished in eighth place in the men's 8K and the women's team finished the women's 5K in tenth.
The highest finisher for the Peacocks in the men's 8K was Gerardo Quaglia. The SPU senior finished the race with a time of 27:27:24 and placed 40th out of 69 runners. Following close behind him was senior Brendan Heaney who finished in 48th with a time of 37:41:18. Freshman Luis Romero finished in 61st (30:39:12) and in 64th was Solomon Dunham (32:04:97). Freshman Kenneth Montes placed 67th (33:30:37) and closing out for the Peacocks was freshman Nicholaus Micheal in 69th (33:50:76).
Hofstra's Abraham Longosiwa claimed first in the men's 8k with a time of 23:29:99.
Freshman Shirleysa Rivas was the highest-placed Peacock in the women's 5k. Rivas finished the race with a time of 21:40:76 and placed 58th out of 74 runners. Next Peacock to cross the finish line was freshman Paulina Nunez who came in 70th with a time of 24:30:45. In 70th, was senior Diamond McLaughlin with a time of 26:35.98, and following behind her was sophomore Madeline Castillo (28:59.74) and Shanelle Vilson (33:18.29).
St. John's Leyre Campo de Quevedo claimed first in the women's 5k with a time of 17:45.73.
