HARRISONBURG, VA-The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball program fell to James Madison University by a score of 73-32 on Wednesday night. Senior guard Laila Grant was the lead scorer for the Peacocks tacking on a total of 11 points and four rebounds.
WHAT HAPPENED
To get the Peacocks started, sophomore forward Fatmata Janneh won the jump ball, allowing graduate forward Laila Grant to score beyond the three-point arc. Senior forward Layla Laws had a triple, while Grant followed up with a three-pointer. Freshman forward Linda Amaning contributed two points to the squad with a driving layup. Grant drove to the basket adding on two points, while Janneh scored in the paint. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 15-13 Peacocks.
Grant had eight points at the end of the first half, while shooting 3-of-4 from the field and 2-of-3 beyond the three point arc. At half the score was 34-15 Dukes.
Saint Peter's opened the second half with Janneh connecting a pair of free throws. Redshirt sophomore Nikola Zdenkova shot beyond the three point arc.
In the Peacocks final stretch, Janneh had steal that allowed Amaning to add two points to the squad. Amaning had a second chance layup. The Dukes answered with a jumper to extend their lead but held off a Peacock rally down the stretch.
NEXT UP
Next, the Peacocks travel to Hackensack, New Jersey, where the squad takes on FDU. The match-up will take place on Saturday, November 23rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Yes Network.
