HACKENSACK, N.J.- Saint Peter's University men's basketball r-freshman
Bryce Eaton drove the length of the court and dropped in a buzzer beating bucket to vault the Peacocks to a 78-76 win over FDU on Tuesday night.
The Peacocks win their third in a row to even their record at 3-3, while the Knights fall to 3-5.
The Knights got off to a quick start, scoring the first 10 points of the game. Saint Peter's battled back as Eaton scored six points as part of a 8-2 burst to close the gap to 12-8.
FDU led by as much as 13 points in the half but the Peacocks battled back down the stretch. Saint Peter's heated up from downtown with four three-pointers in the final seven minutes of the half with two coming from senior
Adetokunbo Bakare. Sophomore
Armoni Zeigler added a triple, while junior
Eric Morgan Jr. connected on the final trifecta with 2:12 to play in the half to slice the score to 38-34. FDU drained two late free throws to hold a 40-34 lead at halftime.
The Peacocks found to offensive touch to start the second half with a 14-8 run over the first five minutes to pull event at 48. Junior
Zaakir Williamson paced the offense in the paint with a bucket and a three-point play. Saint Peter's picked up their defense during this run as Junior
Jaquel Morris recorded two blocks, while graduate
Stephon Roberts added a block. Eaton tied the game with a three-pointer at the 15:47 mark to knot the game at 48.
The teams traded lead over the final 15 minutes with the Peacocks pulling ahead 76-71 with just over two minutes to play. FDU answered with a three-pointer with 50 seconds to go and a game-tying lay-up with just over three seconds on the clock. Eaton took the in-bound pass off the made basket, weaved his way through the Knights defense and released the ball just before the buzz sounded to send the Peacocks into a frenzy with their third consecutive win.
Eaton led the way with a career-high 21 points, shooting 3-for-7 from downtown, while adding four assists in the win. Zeigler chipped in 14 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Williamson posted his best night as a Peacock with 13 points and three boards. Roberts finished with a team-best nine boards and three swats on the defensive side for Saint Peter's.
The Peacocks travel to Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday, December 3 for a non-conference contest against Duquesne University at 7 pm. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
