JERSEY CITY, NJ. - Corey Washington from the Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team was selected as the Player of the Week from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
The Saint Peter's sophomore returned to the Peacocks lineup last week after a five-game absence. On Friday, Feb. 16 in the Peacocks' 75-53 win over Siena at Run Baby Run Arena, Washington scored a career-high 29 points, with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. Washington shot an efficient 10-20 (50%) from the field.
The 6-6 forward from Sherwood Arkansas followed up his career-high 29 points with a double-double in Saint Peter's 59-53 win at Iona on Sunday, Feb. 18. Washington scored a team-high 18 points, with 10 rebounds, three steals, and one block.
Additionally, Washington was voted as the Men's Division I Player of the Week from the MBWA for the first time in his career. The designation, for games played Feb. 12-18, is unique in that it encompasses players from the 21 Metro area Division I schools.
The Preseason All-MAAC honoree has scored 20+ points in six games, and has tallied three double-doubles this season. Washington leads the Peacocks in scoring and rebounding this year with 15.5 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game.
The Peacocks have won their last two games in a row and are currently fifth in the MAAC standings. Saint Peter's travels to Knott Arena in Emmitsburg, Maryland for a game against Mount St. Mary's (11-15, 7-8 MAAC) on Friday, Feb. 23.
