JERSEY CITY,NJ. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference released its postseason awards and ALL-MAAC teams Monday. Corey Washington was voted to the All-MAAC First Team. Latrell Reid was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and made the ALL-MAAC Third team.
Corey Washington - All-MAAC First Team
Washington built off his All-MAAC Rookie Team season last year and had a breakout season for the Peacocks. The SPU sophomore led the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. The 6-6 forward scored 20+ points in nine games and tallied four double-doubles. Washington earned MAAC Player of the Week and Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week during the season. Washington scored a career-high 29 points in the Peacocks' 75-53 victory over Siena on Feb. 16, and recorded a double-double off 18 points and 10 rebounds in SPU's 59-53 win at Iona on Feb. 18. This is the second consecutive season that Washington has earned a postseason All-MAAC honor. The last Saint Peter's Men's Basketball player to make the All-MAAC First Team was KC Ndefo for the 2021-22 season.
Latrell Reid - MAAC Defensive Player of the Year - All-MAAC Third Team
Reid was awarded the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. The SPU senior averaged 11.4 ppg, and 4.2 rebounds per game (third in the MAAC) on one of the best defensive teams in the nation. Saint Peter's held opponents to 64.1 points per game (14th in the NCAA).
The New Jersey native recorded eight steals in Saint Peter's 66-60 win over UMBC on Dec. 12. This was the most steals in a game from a MAAC player this season. Additionally, Reid distributed a career-high 17 assists in the Peacocks' 89-57 victory against Manhattan on Mar. 3.
Reid started in every game for the Peacocks this season and tallied two double-doubles. This marks the fourth year out of the last five that a Saint Peter's student-athlete has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ndefo won the award three consecutive times (2020-2022).
