JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Softball team (7-7) opens conference play against Niagara in its home opener on Wednesday at Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks will play the Purple Eagles in a doubleheader that starts at 12PM.
SPU split its doubleheader at South Carolina State on Mar. 8. In the Peacocks' 8-4 win over SCST, Kaitlynn Peters went 2-3 with a season-high three RBIs and Jess Forte went 2-4 with three RBIs.
Niagara is 2-5 on the season. Niagara's Madison LaPenta leads the MAAC with a .500 batting average. Selah Moyer is batting .462 this season with a team-high two RBIs. The Purple Eagles are currently ninth in the MAAC standings.
SPU's Cara McNulty is seventh in the MAAC with 10 RBIs on the year. McNulty and Jess Forte are tied for second in the MAAC in home runs with two each. Saint Peter's sophomore Tai Turner is batting a team-high .444 this season. SPU freshman Sydney Orndorff has a team-high 16 hits this season and is fifth in the MAAC in runs scored (10). The Peacocks are currently at fourth in the MAAC standings.
Saint Peter's has won its last two games against Niagara and is 5-19 all-time against the Purple Eagles.
