Men's Basketball Takes On Rider Thursday Night In MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals

JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team (16-13, 12-8 MAAC)  takes on Rider (15-16, 12-8 MAAC) at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in the 2024 Hercules Tires MAAC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals. 

Overview 
The No. 5 seed Saint Peter's is set for postseason play in Atlantic City against No. 4 Rider. 

The Broncs closed out the regular season on a seven-game winning streak. Mervin James leads the MAAC in scoring with 19 points per game. James was selected to the All-MAAC first team. Rider's Allen Powell (10.4 ppg) was named to the All-MAAC Third Team.  

Saint Peter's finished the regular season ranked 14th in the nation in scoring defense. The Peacocks have held opponents to 64.1 points per game. 

Corey Washington
Washington was voted to the All-MAAC First Team on Monday. The SPU sophomore had a breakout season for the Peacocks. Washington leads the Peacocks in scoring with 16.8 points per game and rebounding (6.4 rpg).  The SPU standout has scored 20+ points in nine games and tallied four double-doubles on the year. The last Saint Peter's Men's Basketball player to make the All-MAAC First Team was KC Ndefo for the 2021-22 season.  

Latrell Reid
Reid was awarded the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. The New Jersey native averaged 11.4 ppg, and 4.2 rebounds per game (third in the MAAC). Reid started in every game for the Peacocks this season and tallied two double-doubles. This marks the fourth year out of the last five that a Saint Peter's student-athlete has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ndefo won the award three consecutive times (2020-2022). 

Series
Saint Peter's is 34-44 all-time versus Rider. The Broncs defeated the Peacocks 61-56 in their regular-season finale on Mar. 7. Last year, Saint Peter's knocked Rider out of the tournament in the quarterfinal round (70-62, Mar. 8, 2023).
