JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Softball team won its conference opener 4-2 over the Fairfield Stags (4-20, 1-3 MAAC) Friday at Jaroschak Field.

Saint Peter's pitcher Kristen Brennan pitched a complete game, tallied two strikeouts, and picked up her fifth win of the season. Cara McNulty hit her sixth home run of the season. McNulty went 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored, one home run, and one RBI.
The Stags scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Fairfield's Anna Paravati hit an RBI double, which gave the Stags a 1-0 advantage. The Peacocks responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. McNulty hit a single and advanced to second on the throw into home plate. Dakota Pitts delivered McNulty home with an RBI double to center field. Later in the inning, with runners on first and second, Maiah Skakal tacked on another run with an RBI single, which scored Pitts.
In the bottom of the second inning, Angelina Wagner scored from third base on a Stags error, and the Peacocks extended their lead to 3-1. Fairfield outfielder Quinn McGonigle cut the deficit to 3-2 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the third, McNulty blasted a solo home run off the scoreboard, and the Peacocks led 4-2. McNulty has homered in two consecutive games and is second in the MAAC in home runs with six.
Saint Peter's maintained its 4-2 advantage for the remainder of the game. The Peacocks moved to 11-14 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Saint Peter's takes on Fairfield in a doubleheader tomorrow Mar. 30. The first game begins at 11AM.
