JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Softball team (6-5) travels to College Park for a game at Maryland (6-12) on Thursday. The game will be streamed on B1G+ and starts at 6PM.
The Peacocks are on a three-game winning streak after they swept their series at Delaware State on Mar. 3-4. Saint Peter's pitchers Kristen Brennan and Angelina Wagner each notched a complete game shutout in the series. Maiah Skakal batted .750 (9-12) with three RBIs, and Taylor Montgomery went 6-10 at the plate with one home run and five RBIs. In Saint Peter's 8-5 victory over DSU in the final game of the series, the SPU freshman hit her first career home run in the top of the first inning. SPU left fielder Sydney Orndorff went 7-14 with two RBIs and one double in the series.
Additionally, Montgomery is one of two players batting over .400 this season. Montgomery is batting .444 (fifth in the MAAC). Skakal currently leads the Peacocks with a team-high batting average of .451 (fourth in the MAAC). On Wednesday, Mar. 7, Skakal was named the Hercules MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Jess Forte leads the MAAC in triples with three, is second in slugging percentage (.727) and third in home runs (two).
Maryland (6-12) split two games at No. 25 Oregon on Mar. 1-2. The Terrapins won the first game 4-0 and dropped the second game 4-1. Maryland outfielder Mazie McFarland is batting a team-high of .326. Maryland graduate student Diamond Williams is eighth in the Big Ten with a team-high five home runs this season. Williams also leads Maryland in RBIs (16).
