JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Softball team (6-6) travels to Orangeburg, South Carolina in a four-game series against South Carolina State (1-11) this weekend. The Peacocks will play the Lady Bulldogs in a doubleheader on Friday with game one at 1PM. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 12.
SPU dropped to 6-6 after its loss at Maryland on Thursday, Mar. 7. Saint Peter's Maiah Skakal is batting a team-high .438 this season. The SPU senior was recognized as the Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Peacocks' series sweep at Delaware State on Mar. 3-4. Skakal batted 9-12 (.750) with three RBIs. Skakal has recorded 14 hits and eight RBIs this season and has the second-highest on base percentage in the MAAC (0.513). Jess Forte leads the MAAC in triples with three, and is tied with Cara McNulty for second in home runs with two.
South Carolina State has one win this season over Alabama A&M (Feb. 17). SCST sophomore, Madison Boyd leads the Lady Bulldogs in batting average (.368), runs scored (3), hits (7), and RBIs (6).
Saint Peter's is 8-0 all-time against South Carolina State University.
