EMMITSBURG, MD. - The Saint Peter's Softball team (14-26, 4-10 MAAC) squared off against Mount St. Mary's (10-24, 3-10 MAAC) in a doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Saturday. Saint Peter's picked up its fourth conference win of the year over the Mountaineers 7-1. The Peacocks dropped the second game of Saturday's doubleheader 4-3.
Game One | Game Two
Game One - Saint Peter's - 7 | Mount St. Mary's - 1
- At the plate Cara McNulty went 3-4 (.750), three runs scored, 1 home run, 1 double, and two RBIs.
- Saint Peter's pitcher Kristen Brennan pitched a complete game and picked up her team-high sixth win of the season. Brennan gave up one earned run and tallied three strikeouts.
- McNulty hit her eighth home run of the year. McNulty's solo shot in the top of the first followed by a two-RBI double from Saint Peter's freshman Zailees Seda gave SPU a 3-0 cushion.
- In the third inning, McNulty got on base with a double down the left-field line. Dakota Pitts scored McNulty on an RBI single up the middle.
- Mount St. Mary's scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. MSM's Elizabeth King hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
- Kaitlynn Peters recorded an RBI in the top of the sixth inning and Saint Peter's led 5-1.
- The Peacocks put the finishing touches on the game in the top of the seventh inning. Maiah Skakal doubled down the left field line followed by an RBI single from McNulty. Jess Forte scored McNulty on an RBI double to right center.
Game Two - Mount St. Mary's - 3 | Saint Peter's - 2
- Dakota Pitts put the Peacocks up 1-0 in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to right field.
- MSM's Hannah Gartrell tied up the game. The MSM senior hit a sacrifice fly to center field. The Mountaineers took a 2-1 advantage.
- The Peacocks took the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Kaitlynn Peters singled to center field and Taylor Montgomery doubled. With runners on second and third, Sydney Orndorff reached first base on an error, and two runs for Saint Peter's scored.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning MSM's Brianna Manni hit a walk-off home run to center field.
The weekend series between Saint Peter's and Mount St. Mary's concludes with a game on Sunday, Apr. 21 at noon.
