Softball Defeated By Marist In Tuesday's Doubleheader

JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Softball team (15-28, 5-12 MAAC) dropped Tuesday's doubleheader against Marist (30-14, 12-4 MAAC) at Jaroschak Field. 

Game One | Game Two 

Game One - Marist - 8 | Saint Peter's - 0 (Five Innings)

  • The Red Foxes recorded eight runs on 10 hits. 

  • Saint Peter's Maiah Skakal and Dakota Pitts each went 1-2 at the plate.

  • Marists' Peyton Pusey hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning. Marists' Maddie Pleasants hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth for the Red Foxes' eighth run of the game. 

  • Marists' pitcher Kiley Myers (5.0 IP, two hits, 0 earned runs, three strikeouts) picked up the win in the circle. 

Game Two - Marist - 12 | Saint Peter's - 8

  • The Peacocks had 13 hits in the game. Cara McNulty went 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored, and two RBIs. Jess Forte hit her team-high ninth home run of the season and went 2-3 with one run scored and three RBIs. 

  • Saint Peter's jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first three innings.

  • McNulty hit an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the first inning. SPU capitalized off errors, and a sacrifice fly from McNulty in the bottom of the second extended the Peacocks' lead to 4-0. Forte hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning for SPU's fifth run. 

  • In the bottom of the third inning, Kaylee Lacomb hit a home run over left field which gave Saint Peter's a 6-0 advantage. 

  • Marist cut the deficit to 6-2 in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run from Samantha Rogers.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, McNulty singled to center field. Forte hit a two-run home run over left field and the Peacocks led 8-2. 

  • The Red Foxes scored ten unanswered runs. Marist scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. 

  • Marist took the lead In the top of the sixth inning. Miah McDonald hit a two-RBI triple to right field followed by a home run by starting pitcher Pleasants gave Marist a 10-8 advantage. 

  • McDonald homered to center field in the top of the seventh, for Marists' final runs of the game. 


Saint Peter's squares off with Marist in the series finale at Jaroschak Field on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at noon.
