PRINCESS ANNE, The Saint Peter's cross country team competed at UMES Soaring Hawk Invitational at UMES Recreation Fields on Saturday.
Freshman Shirleysa Rivas was the highest-placed female runner for the Peacocks, finishing the women's 5k in 23:34:40 and placing 16th. Following her in 20th was Paulina Nunez, finishing in 24:42:88. Diamond McLaughlin placed 29th (28:49:89), and behind her was Madeline Castillo (28:51:75). Mikell Dolo finished in 42:19:11 and closing out for Saint Peter's is Balikis Iyiola who finished in 42:19:52. The Peacocks finished the day in fifth place.
Delaware State University finished first overall on the women's side in team standings. And Morgan State's Abigail Fisher took first place at 20:03:21.
On the men's side, Gerardo Quaglia, Brendan Heaney, Solomon Dunham, Luis Romero, Kenneth Montes, Ajani Peck-Wekunda, and Connor Ziolkowski ran the men's 8k. Quaglia was the highest-placed Peacock on the day, claiming 11th with a time of 28:41:59. Following right behind Quaglia was Heaney, finishing with a time of 28:53.11. Duhman claimed 23rd with a time of 31:18:83. Closing out for the Peacocks in 30th was Romero (34:29.50), Montes (36:01.70), Peck-Wenkunda (37:18.98), and Ziolkowski (37:19.01). The men's cross country team finished sixth.
Hampton University took first place in the men's 8k, with UMES's Jaylen Ridgeway claiming first place with a time of 27:00:37.
Next, the Saint Peter's cross country team will travel to Branch Brook Park on Saturday, Oct. 5, for the METS Championship.
