JERSEY CITY, NJ–The Saint Peter's cross country team gears up for the 2025 MAAC Cross Country Championships, Saturday, November 1st, at Twin Ponds at the Farm in Montgomery, NY. The women will compete in the 6k, with the gun going off at 11 am with men to follow in the 8k at noon.
Shirleysa Rivas has led the charge on the women's side this season. At the Haverford Invitational Rivas crossed the line in 20:33.5 finishing 14th overall and at the Metropolitan Championships she clocked a new personal record in the 5k, finishing in 19:51.0. For her outstanding performances, Rivas earned Jersey Mike's MAAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors (10/15) and was named MAAC's Athlete of the Week (10/29), becoming the first Saint Peter's runner this season to receive a MAAC weekly award.
The men's team had some time since they last toed the line. In their last outing, the ECAC/IC4A Championships,
Earl Hart was the top Peacock finisher, placing 147th with a time of 26:43.0. Hart has led the men's team all season, being the top finisher in the four races he competed in. His best time thus far was from the Metropolitan Championships, where he shaved almost a minute from his previous time (25:43.7).
Rookie
Sebastian Lopez has also been a consistent runner throughout the season. At the ECACs, Lopez was the second Peacock to finish, clocking in at 26:53.6, at the METS he hit a personal best, crossing the finish line in 26:08.1, and at Lehigh's Paul Short Run, Lopez was the top SPU runner (26:42.1).
LAST YEAR AT MAACS
Gerardo Quaglia was Saint Peter's top finisher at last year's championship, placing 138th out of 173 runners with a time of 27:51.1. Quaglia has led the men's squad at the MAAC Championships for the past three seasons, while
Nicholaus Michael (30:41.7),
Kenneth Montes (34:17.2), and
Connor Ziolkowski (34:50.8) also competed for the Peacocks.
Iona extended its three-decade streak, capturing first place in the men's 8K with a team score of 15, led by Lachlan Wellington's winning time of 23:57.4.
On the women's side, Rivas was the top Peacock finisher, clocking 26:42.5 to place 146th out of 156 runners, followed closely by
Paulina Nunez in 29:02.1. Quinnipiac claimed its third consecutive women's team title with a score of 31, while Fairfield's Hannah Snayd took the individual crown in 20:36.3.
