Saint Peter’s Set To Take On VCU In Richmond

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team (1-1) travels down to Richmond, Va., to play VCU (1-1) in a nonconference matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The third-ever meeting between the two teams is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET. 

The Peacocks just earned their first win of the season last Saturday, defeating FDU in the home opener. Brent Bland led the way for Saint Peter's with a career-high 27 points. Other players who showed out were TJ Robinson, Bryce Eaton and Jahki Gupton.

In his first collegiate start, Robinson finished with 16 points and six assists, shooting 6-for-10 from the field. Eaton added 13 points to the SPU total while recording a team-high eight assists. Gupton brought the energy in Saint Peter's first win, converting on multiple alley-oop dunks and matching it on the other end with three blocks. He notched 11 points and pulled in five rebounds.

Over its first two games of the season, Saint Peter's has shown that 'strength in numbers' is a main theme for this team. Head coach Bashir Mason played 12 players in the opener at Seton Hall and 11 players against FDU.

ABOUT THE VCU RAMS
VCU dominated its first game of the season, taking down Wagner by 29 points, 103-74. The Rams were led Lazar Djokovic who notched 21 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Brandon Jennings also had a great showing in the win with 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Most recently, the Rams fell to Utah State as part of the Texas Showcase in Frisco, Texas. VCU was taken down by just three points, 77-80. The Rams trailed by nine at halftime, but outscored the Aggies 41-to-35 in the second half.

VCU is coached by Phil Martelli Jr., who is in his first season as head coach of the Rams. 

NOTES
Saint Peter's is 0-2 all-time against VCU, with both games being on the road...the last matchup between the two teams came on Nov. 9, 2021 when the Rams won 57-54…in Saint Peter's win over FDU, Bland made six 3-pointers becoming the first Peacock player to make six or more 3-pointers in a single game since Doug Edert made seven vs. Rider on Feb. 23, 2020.
