NEW ROCHELLE, NY– The Saint Peter's swimming and diving programs traveled to Iona on Saturday afternoon for their first road MAAC contest of the season, where both squads fell to the Gaels–the women 184-102 and the men 191-103. Despite the setback, the Peacocks put together an impressive slate of performances, combining for 12 event victories, highlighted by two wins each from
Madison Petricevic and
Patch Robinson, and three first-place finishes from
Paige Austin-Burrows, who also added a silver to her day.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Petricevic delivered the first two wins of the afternoon for the Peacocks, dominating the backstroke events with top times in both the 50-yard backstroke (27.52) and 100-yard backstroke (1:00.34).
Gwendolyn Mendez added a strong victory in the 500-yard freestyle, pulling away by more than seven seconds to post a new personal best of 5:25.07. Austin-Burrows continued the momentum with golds in the 100-yard butterfly (59.51), the only sub-minute swim of the field, and the 100-yard IM (1:01.80).
The women closed the meet by sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay. SPU A–
Maddie McKinney, Niela Dawlett, Eloise Schirtzinger, Austin-Burrows– took first in 1:43.84, with Austin-Burrows delivering the fastest anchor split of the event (25.26). SPU B–Mendez, Petricevic,
Elettra Dalcerri, Francesca Solano Vargas–followed in 1:46.31.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Juan Nunez kicked off the men's scoring with a commanding win in the 400-yard IM, finishing more than eight seconds ahead of the field in 4:07.84.
Rookie Robinson then swept the mid-distance freestyle events, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.56) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.85).
Jeff Thompson joined him on the podium in the 500, finishing third in 5:04.11.
Victor Fuentes recorded a season-best time in his victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.67), the only swimmer to break one minute.
Tristan Raso added another event win in the 100-yard butterfly, touching first with a season-best 51.00.
The men's squad swept the final event of the night, the 200-yard freestyle. SPU A–Fuentes, Raso, Thompson, and
Ashton Smith– took first in 1:31.76. Followed by SPU B–Robinson,
Nikita Kaminskas, Nunez, and
Austin Carducci– in 1:32.66, and SPU C–
Ean Vellescig, Dean Lliguicota, Taj Seton-Martin, and
Emerson Tofel– in 1:36.51.

The Peacocks return to action on Saturday, November 22, for their final meet of the month at a multi-team event hosted by Sacred Heart University at McCann Natatorium. The women will compete in a quad meet against Sacred Heart, Merrimack, and Bridgeport, while the men will face Bridgeport in a dual meet. First splash is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
