JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team (2-4) dropped a nonconference home game to Dartmouth (2-3) by a final score of 61-87 at Run Baby Run Arena on Saturday. The Peacocks trailed by eight at halftime, but couldn't stage a comeback in the second half as they fell by 26.
Saint Peter's shot 32.8 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from 3 while the Big Green shot above 45.0 percent in both categories.
Brent Bland and
TJ Robinson were the leading scorers for the Peacocks as
J'Quan Ewing and
Eric Morgan Jr. brought solid energy for the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF: Over the first 10 minutes of the game, neither team gained separation as the Peacocks led 15-13 after the second media timeout. Approaching the eight-minute mark, Dartmouth took a 16-15 advantage with a free throw. After a 3-pointer by Bland tied the game at 20-all, the Big Green responded with an AND-1 three on the other end to go up 24-20. The Big Green ended the half on a 16-8 run as they held a 36-28 lead at the break. The Peacocks had eight points in the paint compared to Dartmouth's 14.
SECOND HALF: Saint Peter's cut its deficit to just three, 40-43, shortly into the second half with the help of an 8-2 scoring run. Dartmouth responded by knocking down some shots to keep the Peacocks out of reach. Just when Saint Peter's made it a close game, the Big Green went on a big 11-0 run to take a commanding 14-point lead with under 10 minutes to go. Saint Peter's struggled to score down the stretch as Dartmouth kept extending its lead.
