JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team (4-9-2, 2-6-1 MAAC) finished the season off against Marist (7-4-4, 3-4-2 MAAC) at Jaroschak Field on Wednesday afternoon, falling 0-3. The Peacocks held a celebration before the game, honoring their eight seniors, some of whom were accompanied by their families.
As the season came to a close today, Saint Peter's celebrated its eight seniors:
Tim Strele,
Lex Vaughan, G
uilherme Melchiori,
Adam Holt,
Micah O'Garro,
Oliver Alaviuhkola,
Omre Etienne and
John Hallgren. All eight have contributed greatly to making Saint Peter's into what it is today.
The Peacocks trailed to start the game as the Red Foxes scored the first goal in the 12th minute on a transition sequence. The ball was sent just outside the box, pulling Saint Peter's goalkeeper out of the net. Marist then retrieved the loose ball and shot it for a score.
The Peacocks had a great chance to tie the game in the 23rd minute, but the Marist goalkeeper made a great save to stay ahead. Saint Peter's saw several other scoring chances in the first half, but couldn't capitalize as it faced a 0-1 deficit at halftime.
In the second half, the Red Foxes brought their goal total to three, scoring in the 48th minute and the 68th minute. Saint Peter's goalkeeper Alaviuhkola finished the day making nine saves against the Marist attack.
Peacocks who registered shots on goal were Holt, Hallgren and
Manu Kambouris. Kambouris led the pack with two shots on goal. Strele was held scoreless on three shots, however, he still finished first in the MAAC in goals scored with 12 on the season.
