Saint Peter’s Starts Conference Play Against Canisius, Niagara

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team (2-4) begins conference play this weekend with games vs. Canisius (4-4) and Niagara (2-5). The Peacocks play the Griffs on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and the Purple Eagles on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Peacocks finished 11th in the MAAC a season ago and were picked to finish 11th in the MAAC Preseason Poll this year. This is Bashir Mason's fourth season coaching in the MAAC.

ABOUT THE CANISIUS GOLDEN GRIFFS
Canisius most recently lost to Buffalo after recording back-to-back wins over UMES and Binghamton. The Griffs' two other wins came against Allegheny in the season opener and Mercyhurst. The Golden Griffs rank 12th in the MAAC in scoring, but are third in points allowed.

Junior forward Bryan Ndjonga has jumped off to a great start this season, averaging 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Mike Evbagharu has also been solid for the Griffs with 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. 

Canisius is coached by Jim Christian, who is in his second season as head coach of the Golden Griffs.

ABOUT THE NIAGARA PURPLE EAGLES
After starting the season 2-1, Niagara has since lost four straight games. Its two wins came over Binghamton and Delaware State.  The Purple Eagles rank one spot above Canisius in scoring, sitting at 11th, while being one spot behind the Griffs in defense, ranking fourth. They will play Siena on Friday before playing the Peacocks on Sunday.

Niagara has three players averaging double-digit points, led by Justin Page with 12.3 points per game. He also leads the team with 19 assists on the season. 

Niagara is coached by Greg Paulus, who is in his fifth season as head coach of the Purple Eagles.
