JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Delano Gooden has been named the Bob McCloskey MAAC Track Athlete of the Week, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced Tuesday afternoon, after a standout performance at the Metropolitan Championships.
Gooden, a graduate student from Union, N.J., dominated the men's 60m dash, winning the event with a time of 6.85 seconds. He followed up with a runner-up finish in the 200m, clocking 21.88 seconds, the fastest time among MAAC competitors at the meet, and just .47 seconds behind first-place Njaminaweh Abdul Latif (Fordham University). His performances helped Saint Peter's to a fifth-place team finish against a competitive field.
This marks Gooden's first MAAC weekly honor of the season as he continues to lead the Peacocks' sprint squad. He and the team return to action on Feb. 8, competing at Ocean Breeze for the Big Apple Invitational.
