HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore Fatmata Janneh sparked the Peacocks' momentum with a strong drive to the basket, setting the tone early. Freshman forward De'Naya Rippey followed up with a tough finish in the paint, capping off the first quarter with a driving layup that put Saint Peter's ahead 10-8.
Coming out of the first-quarter break, Rippey powered through with back-to-back layups. Janneh added to the momentum with a strong finish at the rim, followed by Rippey sinking a smooth jumper. Junior Louella Allana then attacked the lane, dishing it out to Rippey, who drilled a three-pointer. Despite the Peacocks offensive push, Canisius held a slim 26-25 lead at halftime.
Heading into the second half, Janneh attacked the rim with a strong drive. Freshman forward Linda Amaning followed up with back-to-back layups before Rippey added two of her own. Rippey then capped off the third quarter with a clutch three-pointer, giving Saint Peter's a 38-35 lead heading into the final stretch.
In the Peacocks' final push, graduate student Laila Grant attacked the basket with determination. Janneh added a smooth jumper, while Allana kept the momentum alive with back-to-back layups. Despite their efforts, Saint Peter's fell just short, as Canisius secured a 50-47 victory at the final buzzer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Rippey delivered a dominant performance for Saint Peter's, leading the team with 22 points in 31 minutes of action. She showcased her efficiency, shooting 52.9% from the field (nine-of-17) and knocking down 50% of her three-pointers (two-of-four). Rippey made a major impact on the boards with 10 rebounds, including an impressive eight offensive rebounds.
