Four Peacocks Recognized For Saint Peter’s Activity Achievement

The four student-athletes earned membership in the Cross Keys Honor Society

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – With graduation fast approaching, four SPU student-athletes were recognized by Saint Peter's University for receiving the honor of activity achievement. Layla Laws (women's basketball), Dakota Pitts (softball), Adebusuyi Shittu (track and field) and Gabrielle Saint-Jacques (women's soccer) were all selected as new members of the Order of the Cross Keys.

"Being inducted into the Order of the Cross Keys is truly an honor and something that means a lot to me personally," Saint-Jacques said. "It feels like a meaningful acknowledgment of the effort I've put into all areas of my college experience, academics, athletics, leadership, and service."

"Being a part of the Cross Keys Honor Society means so much to me," Laws added. "It's not just about the achievements but the journey, the growth, and every person who has helped me get to this point."

The Order of the Cross Keys is an honor association of outstanding well-rounded students in the traditional day program. The selection committee chooses new members on the basis of academic achievement, superior service to the University community, and character.

These four student-athletes have truly embodied what it means to be impactful Peacocks both in the community and in competition when they have Saint Peter's written across their chests.

"Community involvement is extremely important to me, as I love making a positive impact on those around me," stated Pitts. "I have volunteered with senior citizens who were extremely grateful for the quality time spent with them. I have also worked with younger kids who want to get better at softball. I love growing the sport while spreading my love and knowledge for the game. I love to lead by example, and being involved in the community has allowed me to do this."

"Community involvement is essential because it grounds me," Shittu said. "When you get involved in a community like this you get to see how others are living. It makes you truly grateful for what you have. As a student, I benefit from the support of my peers, faculty, and the wider Saint Peter's community, and I feel a deep responsibility to give back."

FAREWELL ADVICE
Layla Laws

"Through basketball, leadership roles, and more injury recovery nights than I can count, I've learned discipline, time management, and how to bounce back when life gets tough—both physically and mentally. To the current students here: stay locked in. Take care of yourself first—mind and body—and protect your energy by pouring it into the people who truly support you. Don't be afraid to ask for help—you don't have to do everything alone. And most importantly, keep showing up as you are, every day, no matter what. Saint Peter's will shape you in ways you don't expect, but it will only amplify what's been there all along."

Dakota Pitts
"Cherish every moment of your college experience - whether that be on the field, with friends, or even in classes. Make it a point to leave a positive impact on everyone you interact with and make relationships with those around you."

Adebusuyi Shittu
"Take advantage of every opportunity Saint Peter's has to offer. There are so many clubs and organizations to be a part of. If you don't see one you like, start one on your own. Stay true to yourself and don't change for anyone.  you have something special to offer, so lead with purpose, stay grounded, and always remember why you started."

Gabrielle Saint-Jacques
"If I could give one piece of advice to current Peacocks, it would be to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Get involved, even if it feels a little out of your comfort zone. Some of my most meaningful experiences came from saying "yes" to things that scared me a little at first. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and be willing to help others too. Lean on your community and build relationships; it makes all the difference. Most importantly, remember that your journey is your own. Embrace your challenges, celebrate your wins, and stay true to who you are. You're capable of so much more than you think."
