Peacocks Split The Day Against Mercyhurst And Holy Cross

ERIE, Pa. – The Saint Peter's volleyball team won its first match (23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21) against Mercyhurst (1-6) before ultimately falling to Holy Cross (2-4) in five sets (23-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-22, 15-17) at Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday.

Before their second match of the day, the Peacocks (3-3) had won three straight matches for the first time since the 2008 season.

Saint Peter's dropped its first set to the Lakers before winning the next three for their third straight win. Sibana González Acevedo led the charge with 14 kills and six digs, while the setting duo of Alondra Fargas and Andrea Rodríguez each recorded 19 assists.

For the second time this season, the Peacocks went a full five sets against the Crusaders, but this time Holy Cross took the victory. Despite the loss, Saint Peter's had four players reach double-digit kills. Valeria Pagan Munoz had 14, followed by Indira T. Benitez Dumeng and Gonzalez Acevedo with 13. Gonzalez Acevedo finished with a double-double after adding 20 digs on the receiving end. 

Karolina T. Rodriguez Mendez also had a great showing with 12 kills while hitting .417 to go along with her six blocks and eight digs. 

UP NEXT
The Saint Peter's home opener against Seton Hall takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. ET. The Peacocks are 4-7 all-time vs. the Pirates.

NOTES
The Peacocks were on a three-match winning streak before falling to Holy Cross in five sets…the last time Saint Peter's won three matches in a row was back during the 2008 season…the Peacocks recorded more points, kills, assists and digs than Holy Cross…Gonzalez Acevedo (29 aces) and Rodriguez (27 aces) lead the MAAC in aces.
