Saint Peter’s Falls In Hard Fought Contest Against Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team was defeated in a tough contest against the Siena Saints 74-47 at the UHY Center in Loudonville, New York.

The Peacocks in defeat battled to the very end, with a great first half that included multiple scoring runs. Highlighted by another excellent performance from De'Naya Rippey, with 12 points and a team best six rebounds. Nikola Zdenkova also with a strong performance of nine points, and once again leading the team in minutes with 34. Layla Laws provided a great spark off the bench, with six points and a team best three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER:
The Peacocks first basket came inside on a great drive from Reilly Sunday. After a six point run from the Saints, the Peacocks responded with their own five point run all scored by Rippey. Heading into a media timeout with a score of 7-6, Zdenkova knocked down a monster triple coming out the timeout to keep the lead in the hands of the Peacocks, with Rippey following up on a basket inside for good measure. After a five point swing by the Saints, Louella Allana cashed in on a wide open 3-pointer, but thanks to solid shooting from the Saints in response, the Peacocks ended the first quarter down 15-19.

SECOND QUARTER: Jayshlynn Vega began the second quarter with a triple from the outside for the first points by Saint Peter's. However, the Saints quickly went to work, scoring nine straight points before the run ended with a jumper from Sunday. Heading into the media timeout, the Peacocks found themselves down 20-31, but life quickly sprung as the Peacocks ripped off eight straight points to end the first half. A Laws jumper, a basket inside and free throw from Rippey, and a Zdenkova triple left the Peacocks down, but not out as the score at the end of the first half remained 28-33.

THIRD QUARTER: Zdenkova began the second half with a triple from way outside to immediately stop a run from the Saints early. However, the Saints quickly took control of the third, forcing the Peacocks to go scoreless for the next three minutes, heading into the media timeout with a score of 31-44. The scoring from the Saints continued, as the impressive 19 point run was ended thanks to a jumper by Eszter Turi. With that basket, the end of the third saw the Peacocks down 33-56 to enter the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER: Rippey started the fourth quarter with a basket inside off an offensive rebound. Laws added to the total with a spinning layup inside the paint. Turi later added another point to her total on a spinning layup as well. Halfway through the fourth, the score sat at 41-67 after another basket inside by Laws. Jada Mills earned a pair of points at the line following a hard drive inside. After a pair of made free throws by Turi, Mills scored on a fastbreak layup for the final basket for the Peacocks, and the final score of 47-74.

UP NEXT: The Peacocks will head back on the road Monday, Jan. 19 against Iona in New Rochelle, New York at 1pm ET.
