Peacocks Leave Marist With A Win Courtesy Of Pinho Magno’s Goal

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- The Saint Peter's women's soccer team (2-11-1) CONF. (1-6-1) had a standout performance against the Marist Red Foxes (5-8-1) CONF. (5-3-1) yesterday evening. The Peacocks used hard work and resilience to come away with their first Metro Conference win of the season.

Pinho Magno scored the lone goal of the game. She has now scored in back-to-back games for the Peacocks.

WHAT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF:

The Red Foxes opened the first half with two shots in the first six minutes. Kristinsdottir made her first saves of the game in the 29th minute. Her efforts included back-to-back saves to ensure the Red Foxes did not get on the scoreboard first.

The opening 30 minutes of play did not see a ton of action from both teams. A quiet first half with Saint Peter's first shot of the game coming in the 38th minute from captain Wilma Thodhlana.

The Red Foxes then answered with a pair of their own shots. Kristinsdottir made a diving save to the bottom left of her goal.

A low-intensity first half only saw one shot for the Peacocks. Marist had the upper hand in shots, leading 12-1 at the half.

SECOND HALF:
The game was scoreless at 0-0, and both teams wanted to break the mould first. The Red Foxes fired five shots in the opening eight minutes of the half.

Shelby Brunotte struck the ball on goal in the 57th minute, but the Marist keeper was able to make the save.

Alex Husson had a good look in the 64th minute, but her shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Husson received a yellow card just six minutes later in the 70th minute.

The game-winning goal came in the 72nd minute after Julia Pinho Magno fired a rocket that went in the back of the Red Foxes' goal.
The Peacocks were determined to keep their lead and secure their first conference win of the season. Defensive efforts saw no dangerous Red Fox attack opportunities.

Kristinsdottir made her final save of the game in the 90th minute of play.

This Peacocks win ended a drought for Saint Peter's, and the Peacocks will look to open a win streak this week. Pinho Magno now has two goals this season and six total points.
