Peacocks Fall To Niagara, Unable To Get On The Scoreboard

NIAGARA N.Y.- The Saint Peter's women's soccer team (1-8-1) CONF. (0-3-1) battled until the final whistle against the Niagara Purple Eagles (7-3) CONF. (4-2). Ultimately, the Peacocks fell 1-3.

Begga Kristinsdottir recorded eight saves in Saint Peter's efforts. McLean led the team in shots.


WHAT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF:

The Purple Eagles attacked in the opening seconds of play. They had a corner kick, which led to their first shot of the game. Kristinsdottir earned her first save in the 2nd minute of play.

Niagara then had three corner kicks in under a minute. Saint Peter's was standing its ground defensively.

Baillie Colling of the Purple Eagles had a clear look at goal in the 18th minute, but her shot went wide of the Peacocks' goal.

The Peacocks opened their attack in the 26th minute. Mayla McLean had a shot attempt that was blocked.

Saint Peter's was quiet offensively for the remainder of the half. Defensively, work was being taken care of.

The score was leveled 0-0 at the half. The Peacocks trailed 9-1 in shots and 5-2 in corners going into the half. They led 5-0 in saves.


SECOND HALF:
Niagara was awarded a free kick in the 52nd minute of play. Mahelie Barbeau fired a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar. A messy squabble in the Peacocks' box led to a Niagara goal in the 53rd minute.

Mayla McLean registered her second shot of the game in the 60th minute that was saved by the Niagara keeper.

The Purple Eagles earned their second goal of the game after Lucy Trinder struck the ball in the bottom left corner of Saint Peter's goal in the 65th minute.

With nine minutes left of play, Mayla McLean was fouled just outside the Niagara 18-yard box. Saint Peter's was not able to convert on its free kick attempt.

A Niagara free kick in the 85th minute led to the Purple Eagles' third and final goal of the game.

The Peacocks will travel north of New York City to New Rochelle on Oct. 7th, where they'll take on the Iona Gaels at 1 PM ET at Mazzella Field.
