NEWARK, N.J.- Peacocks get their fourth win in a row as they beat NJIT in four sets (25-20,17-25,25-21,25-19)
Saint Peter's recorded nine aces and 51 kills to extend their win streak, with Valeria Pagan Munoz having 13 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE-
It would be NJIT that opened the scoreboard as they went on a three-score run, with Munoz getting a kill and an ace to cut the Highlanders' lead to one.
Later in the set, SPU would go on a seven-point run with Alondra Fargas forcing two attack errors and a bad set, with Addison Baglio and Pruvost both getting a kill.
NJIT would struggle to get back into the game, with Mendez getting two kills to extend the lead to 16-13.
Finally, Mendez added another kill to end the set at 25-20, with Fargas being credited with the assist.
SET TWO-
The next set would start similar to the first, with NJIT striking first, with the Peacocks quick to answer back with Munoz getting a kill.
SPU would begin to push away after a Mendez kill following an ace from Alicia Valladres, but the Highlanders answered back with a 7-0 run, with the Peacocks taking their first time out of the set.
After the timeout, NJIT would add one more point before Munoz ended their run with a kill.
Towards the end of the set, Elina Arsov would get involved by getting a kill to cut the lead to 15-23, with Valladres getting an ace shortly after.
NJIT would take the set by forcing a service error and a kill to end the set 25-17.
SET THREE-
It would be Saint Peter's who would take the lead early with a 3-0 run, with NJIT answering back with a kill of their own.
SPU continued to pile on the points as Zumra Yavuz got an ace to extend the Peacocks' lead to 6-2.
The Highlanders could not find an answer for Munoz as she piled on three more kills to her stat line to push SPU's lead out of reach.
Saint Peter's would take the set with Fargas getting a kill at 25-21.
SET FOUR-
With the match split 2-1, NJIT forced an attack error to begin the final set, with Munoz adding another kill to her line to tie the set.
Indira T. Dumeng Benitez added a kill to the board, with Fargas putting on a display of forced attack errors to take the lead from NJIT at 11-7.
Yavuz began to be another problem for the Highlanders as she would get three aces and help Baglio get a kill.
NJIT would go on a five-score run, but it was not enough as three attack errors ended their hopes of a fifth set, with the match ending at 25-19.
