GENEVA, OH—Day three of the MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships at SPIRE Aquatic Center was exhilarating, with eight Peacocks punching tickets to the main stage,
Juan Nunez snagging silver in the 400 individual medley, and
Paige Austin-Burrows rebreaking her own program record in the 100 butterfly.
Through 27 events, Marist (909.5) maintains first, with Fairfield reclaiming second (875.5) and Sacred Heart (678) still in third in the women's standings. On the men's side, the top three remained unchanged, with Fairfield (860.83) in first, Marist (792) in second, and Niagara (397) in third. Both Peacock squads held their positions from day two, with the women in 11th (195) and the men in eighth (275).
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Paige Austin-Burrows opened the evening finals with a bang, smashing her own program record for the second time this season by touching the wall in 55.77–.09 seconds faster than her previous mark–to finish fourth overall.
Fairfield's Allie Bashor finished first in 55.17, followed by Sacred Heart's Sophia Velleco (55.36) and Iona's Victoria Mordaunt (55.46).
Gwendolyn Mendez represented the Peacocks in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 1:08.19 for 24th overall. Fairfield's Tone Sandsjoe claimed gold in 1:00.32, breaking the MAAC record she set last year, followed by Niagara's Alaina Pitton (1:00.87) and Marist's April Avila (1:01.06).
In the 400 medley relay,
Madison Petricevic led off in 57.73, followed by Mendez (1:09.79), Austin-Burrows (56.10), and
Maddie McKinney, who anchored with a 51.56. The quartet finished ninth in 3:57.84.
Fairfield won the event in 3:40.30, breaking the MAAC record by nearly two seconds. Niagara followed closely in 3:40.75, with Marist placing third in 3:45.05.
MEN'S RESULTS
Tristan Raso finished third in the C Final, stopping the clock at 50.00 for 19th overall. Mount St. Mary's Parker Koenig claimed gold in 48.34, with Rider's Sebastian Canosa (48.40) and Tivon Benjamin (48.47) placing second and third.
Juan Nunez earned silver in the 400 IM, slashing nearly five seconds off his personal best with a time of 3:53.31–the second-fastest mark in program history. Fairfield's Bobby Regan took first in 3:51.32.
Patch Robinson won the C Final of the 400 IM, finishing more than a second ahead of the field in 4:05.18.
Ean Vellescig and
Victor Fuentes represented Saint Peter's in the 100 breaststroke, with Vellescig finishing 14th overall and Fuentes placing 18th (57.31). Rider's Max Connelly (53.87) and Billy Ruddy (54.06) went first and second, with Mount St. Mary's Adam Jozsa (54.15) rounding out the podium.
Austin Carducci posted a 52.63 in the 100 backstroke, finishing 22nd overall. Niagara's Vilem Mikula claimed gold in 48.37, followed by Fairfield's Max McMillan (48.17) and Iona's Kieran Egan (48.42).
The Peacocks closed out day three in the 400 medley relay, as the quartet of Nunez (49.59), Fuentes (56.89), Raso (49.15), and
Ashton Smith (45.71) finished eighth in 3:21.34.
Iona claimed first in 3:14.04, followed by Fairfield (3:16.04) and Niagara (3:16.25).
FINAL DAY
The final preliminaries will feature the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and conclude with the men's 1-meter dive.
The final session begins at 3 p.m., starting with the 1650 freestyle. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Evening finals will also include the men's and women's 400 freestyle relays.
