JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team is back in action with a pair of huge matchups, Thursday Feb. 5 at home against Siena, and then Saturday Feb. 7 on the road at Marist. Tip-off for Thursday is scheduled for 7 pm ET and Saturday begins at 2 pm ET.
Saint Peter's comes off a highly emotional and dominant performance on the road last Saturday against Mount St. Mary's in a massive 73-61 victory. A team effort through and through with the Peacocks outscoring the Mountaineers 44-31 between the second and third quarters, the most points scored in a two quarter span this season.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Nikola Zdenkova had her best performance of the season, with a season best 18 points, highlighted with a team best six 3-pointers, accounting for nearly half of the team's triples.
Carys Roy led the Peacocks with a new season high of 20 points, the second most she has scored in her career with Saint Peter's. All while shooting a very impressive 9-for-16 from the floor. Capping off an impressive first month of the new year with five games in the month of January scoring in the double digits.
Laila Grant provided a massive spark off the bench for the Peacocks in her return from injury. Scoring 13 points including three triples, to go along with her first basket scoring her 1000th career point.
OPPONENTS PREVIEW
Firstly for the Saints, they enter on a two game winning streak following a highly competitive overtime victory over Canisius last week with a 69-65 final score. Franchesca Schiro with another incredible performance as the Hillsborough, N.J. freshman dominated the Golden Griffins with 24 points and filling up the stat sheet by grabbing six rebounds and dishing out eight assists. The last time the Peacocks and Saints battled was in early January, with the Saints coming out on top in a home victory for Siena 74-47.
For the Red Foxes, they come off a pair of dominant victories over Canisius and Niagara with the last contest against the Purple Eagles being a 71-52 win at home. In the victory, Marist had three players score in double figures. Lexie Tarul led the Red Foxes with 17 points, which included knocking down four 3-pointers. Justine Henry with a double double of 16 points and grabbing 11 boards, while also being a proficient defender and claiming six steals. And Chloe Escanillis was the final double digit scorer for Marist by having 11 points and also being a distributor, dishing out a team best five assists in the win. All together, these three combined for 44 points and combined for 11 of the team's 14 steals in the win. This is the first of two matchups between Marist and Saint Peter's, with last season favoring the Red Foxes in a clean 2-0 season sweep.
