Poughkeepsie, N.Y.- The Peacocks fell short in a 4-5 loss against Marist in game one of their conference opener series on Friday afternoon.
Despite the defeat, RJ Azaerieh had a decent game with one run and an RBI, followed by Bobby Lavely, who also had an RBI to his line. Kurt Thomas pitched for the Peacocks, facing 21 batters for four innings with only 2 runs allowed during his time pitching.
HOW IT HAPPENED-
Saint Peter's would start to score early in the first inning with a single by Lavely, allowing RJ Azarieh to run to home, followed by a Chase Fogg single that gave Aidan Forrest and Alex Manaent to advance, along with Lavely to score. The Peacocks would hold Marist to zero runs at the bottom of the first.
Both the Peacocks and Red Foxes would have strong defensive efforts in the second and third innings, with Saint Peter's holding Marist to one run at the bottom of the third.
SPU will then score a run of their own by a run by Steve Polizzi. Marist would then have a run as well, leaving the game at 3-2 with Saint Peter's leading the game.
Both teams struggled at the plate in the fifth inning, going scoreless until the top of the sixth, when the Peacocks scored a run on an Azarieh hit to right field, allowing Polizzi to score again. This would be followed by Marist scoring three runs of their own, taking a 4-5 lead against SPU.
Both teams will both go runless for the rest of the game, ending the match in a loss for the Saint Peter's baseball team.
UP NEXT-
Saint Peter's will be returning to Heritage Financial Park Saturday, March 14th, at 12 p.m. to begin game two of their three-game series against The Red Foxes.
