Saint Peter’s Falls in Doubleheader at Penn

PHILADELPHIA, PA– The Saint Peter's softball team dropped a doubleheader against the UPenn at Penn Park Saturday afternoon, falling 4-2 and 11-2. The Peacocks combined for seven hits on the day, with Olivia Christopher recording the lone multi-hit performance and Carlee Charles collecting her second triple of the season.

Morgan Lipansky (1-3) was credited with the loss in game one after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out four batters. Olivia Christopher paced the offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Angela Tremarco finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In game two, Ava White (1-3) got the start in the circle, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six earned runs on eight hits. Four Peacocks finished 1-for-2 at the plate, with Kiana Kadena Matsuda adding a stolen base, Carlee Charles driving in a run with her second triple of the season, Kayla Foy recording a double with a run scored, and Angela Tremarco adding a double and an RBI.

WHAT HAPPENED:
GAME ONE

Penn quickly loaded the bases with back-to-back walks and a single in the bottom of the first inning. Saint Peter's recorded the first out on a pop-up, but a double to right field gave the Quakers a 2-0 lead. A Morgan Lipansky strikeout looking and a flyout kept Penn from adding more.

Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. Saint Peter's loaded the bases with a Penn error, a fielder's choice, and a hit by pitch. Another Quaker error brought home a run, but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning.

Penn added two insurance runs in the sixth inning with two walks, a Peacock error, and a two-RBI single to left field to extend the lead to 4-1. Saint Peter's pushed across one run in the seventh after loading the bases once again on an Olivia Christopher single, another Penn error, and a hit by pitch. Carlee Charles reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Christopher.

GAME TWO
Penn opened game two the same way as game one, scoring two quick runs in the first inning on a pair of singles and a double. Back-to-back doubles from freshman duo Kayla Foy and Angela Tremarco in the second cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Peacocks tied the game in the third inning. With two outs, Kiana Kadena Matsuda singled to shortstop and Carlee Charles ripped a triple down the right field line to score Kadena Matsuda and even the game at 2-2.

Penn responded with a six-run frame. Two doubles, three singles, a Peacock error, a walk, a passed ball, and a stolen base helped the Quakers take an 8-2 lead. Penn added three more runs in the fourth on four singles and another Saint Peter's error to extend the lead to 11-2.

The Peacocks advanced a runner to third in the fifth inning on a walk and two groundouts, but a strikeout ended the threat and secured the win for Penn.
