Peacocks Defeat Marist for First Time in Over 20 Years

Saint Peter’s earns its first conference win of the season while handing the reigning MAAC champions their first conference loss since April.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y– The Saint Peter's softball team (4-12, 1-5 MAAC) snapped Marist's 20+ game conference winning streak and defeated the reigning MAAC champions for the first time in more than 20 years with a 7-5 victory on Sunday afternoon. The loss was the Red Foxes' first in MAAC play since April 19, 2025, while sophomore Summer Solitaria paced the Peacocks' offense in her first start of the season.

Saint Peter's head coach Alyssa Ruiz said after the victory, "Today's win felt great, and it's a huge win for our program. I'm proud of how our team showed up today from the start of the day to the end. It does feel even better knowing the level of the competition that we were up against. I will continue to praise our team for the amount of potential we have, and I can't wait for them to continue to prove that to everyone. I'm proud of our team and can't wait for the week ahead."

Morgan Lipansky (2-4) secured her second win of the season, pitching her second complete game of the weekend. Lipansky allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out five batters. The Peacocks tallied 10 hits, seven RBIs, and three doubles, with three batters recording multi-hit performances.

Summer Solitaria led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Angela Tremarco finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Steph Bendzlowicz added three RBIs.

Marist struggled defensively, tying its season high with six errors.

WHAT HAPPENED
Marist took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after a walk, a double, and a sacrifice fly. Saint Peter's responded in the second with back-to-back Marist errors that put runners on the corners with no outs. Summer Solitaria delivered a bases clearing double down the right field line to give the Peacocks a 2-1 lead.

Saint Peter's held Marist scoreless until the fourth inning, when two singles, a Peacock error, and a groundout tied the game at 2-2. Following the inning, the game was delayed, lasting an hour and 55 minutes.

In the bottom of the fifth, Marist regained the lead with a walk, a passed ball, a sacrifice bunt, and a single to make it 3-2. The Peacocks responded in the sixth with a three-run frame on five consecutive hits.

Paige Seemon opened the inning with a first-pitch single to right field. Tremarco followed with a double to left center, and Bendzlowicz drove in Seemon with a single to the same area. Back-to-back singles from Solitaria and Kayla Foy loaded the bases before Olivia Christopher lifted a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-3.

Saint Peter's added two insurance runs in the seventh. Carlee Charles singled and Seemon doubled to left field to put runners in scoring position with no outs. Tremarco followed with an RBI single to right, and Bendzlowicz grounded out to first to score Seemon.

Marist threatened in the final frame with a two-out, two-run home run from Samantha Rogers, but a pop-up ended the rally, securing the Peacocks' first conference victory and snapping the Red Foxes' seven-game conference win streak.
