JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's baseball team fell to Quinnipiac, 2-12, at Jaroschak Field on Friday afternoon. After their first two runs, the Peacocks had trouble getting on base throughout the evening as the Bobcats pulled away.
The Peacocks (2-20, 0-7 MAAC) are still searching for their first conference victory after today's result against the Bobcats (9-14, 3-4 MAAC).
Allen Ramos and
RJ Azarieh were the only Saint Peter's players to record a hit on the day, and
Chase Fogg had the only RBI when he was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.
The Peacocks struck out the Bobcats 10 times, with
Kurt Thomas leading the way with five strikeouts.
Anthony Mancini finished with four strikeouts over three innings pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Peacocks went through four Quinnipiac batters to record their first three outs of the game and head to the bottom of the first tied 0-0. Quinnipiac returned the favor to keep the tie going. To get out of the top of the second,
Luke Schwartz sent a throw from right center to second base for the last out.
The Bobcats scored the first run of the game in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly. Shortly after, in the bottom of the third, the Peacocks evened things up at 1-1 when
Bobby Lavely singled with the bases loaded to bring Ramos home.
Quinnipiac erupted for four runs in the fourth inning before tacking on two more in the fifth with a two-run homer to make it 7-1.
After the Bobcats continued extending their lead, the Peacocks made a change at pitcher and sent Mancini to the mound. He slowed scoring down but still allowed two runs as Saint Peter's fell by 10 runs, 2-12.
