LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Saint Peter's softball team (4-17, 1-8 MAAC) fell to Siena (13-9, 6-3 MAAC) in game one of the series, 5-1, at Siena Softball Field Saturday afternoon.
The Peacocks struggled offensively, combining for three hits and five strikeouts on the day.
Kiana Kadena Matsuda recorded her fifth double and ninth RBI of the season, while
Hannah Klotz and
Stephanie Bendzlowicz each added a single.
Defensively, Saint Peter's was able to strand eight Siena runners and turn away several scoring threats despite the result.
Morgan Lipansky (2-6) worked 4.2 innings in the circle, allowing five earned runs on ten hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Siena opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a bunt single, a sacrifice bunt, and back-to-back doubles to center field to take a 2-0 lead.
The Peacocks held the Saints scoreless and to two hits until the fifth inning, when two walks, a stolen base, a groundout, a double, and a single extended Siena's lead to 5-0.
Saint Peter's got on the board in the sixth when
Lauren Czerwinski was hit by a pitch to reach first, and
Kiana Kadena Matsuda drove a double into center field to bring her home.
Siena threatened in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with two singles and a walk, but the Peacocks recorded two outs at home before a groundout from third to first ended the inning. Saint Peter's then went down in order in the top of the seventh.

The Peacocks conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon, followed by the final game at 2 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on Siena All Access.
