Saints Complete Series Sweep of Peacocks

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Saint Peter's softball team (4-19, 1-10 MAAC) fell to the Siena Saints (15-9, 8-3 MAAC) in Sunday's doubleheader by a combined score of 12-2. The Peacocks struggled on both sides of the field, committing eight errors across the two contests. Saint Peter's recorded 10 hits on the day but matched that total with 10 strikeouts while leaving 13 runners on base.

Seven Peacocks collected a hit between the two games, with Hannah Klotz, Olivia Christopher, and Angela Tremarco tallying a hit in each contest, while Christopher added an RBI in game one. Paige Seemon recorded the only multi-hit performance of the afternoon, and Tremarco added an RBI to her line.

Despite the results, Brielle Coppola (0-4) pitched one of her strongest outings of the season in the first matchup, allowing three earned runs on six hits for an in-game ERA of 3.50. In game two, Gabriella Rivera came in for 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit for a 0.00 in-game ERA in her first scoreless relief appearance of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE

Saint Peter's took an early lead in the first after Hannah Klotz opened the game with a single down the left field line, followed by a hit by pitch and a Siena error that moved her to third with one out. Olivia Christopher drove her in with a single up the middle to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.

The Saints tied the game in the bottom half of the inning after a slap single down the left field line, a bunt that moved the runner from first to third, and a putout from third to first that brought the runner home.

Siena took a 4-1 lead in the fourth with a walk, a pair of singles, a stolen base, and two Peacock errors. The Saints extended their lead to 5-1 in the next inning with a walk, a single, and another Peacock error. The Peacocks would go down in order to secure game one for Siena.

GAME TWO
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, with Ava White retiring the side in both the first and third innings. Siena threatened in the second with back-to-back singles and a groundout to move runners into scoring position, but Olivia Christopher secured a high pop-up in the infield to strand the runners.

Saint Peter's got on the board in the fourth with Carlee Charles leading off the inning with a first-pitch single up the middle. A wild pitch advanced Charles, and a groundout moved her to third. With an 0-2 count, Angela Tremarco sent a bloop single to right field to bring in Charles and give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.

Siena responded in the bottom half of the inning with a double, a Peacock error, a stolen base, and back-to-back singles to take a 2-1 lead. The Saints extended their lead in the fifth with a single, a sacrifice bunt, back-to-back singles, an advancement on a throw, another Peacock error, and a double to go up 5-1.

Siena added two more runs in the sixth off three Peacock errors, a stolen base, and a groundout to extend the lead to 7-1. The Peacocks would go down in order in the final frame, securing the series sweep for the Saints.
