WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- The Peacocks (3-22, 0-5 MAAC) pull out a win against Monmouth (14-11) in a high scoring 19-12 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Louis D'Alessio and RJ Azarieh stood out with D'Alessio having four RBIs and Azarieh having two of his own, Luca Bruno was on the mound for the Peacocks where he faced 17 batters and allowed four hits during his time pitching.
HOW IT HAPPENED-
Saint Peter's would get their first run at the top of the second by a singled bunt by Max Doninger which then led to error by the third baseman to get him to second, this also allowed Aidan Forrest and Azarieh score. Monmouth added an RBI of their own to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the inning.
The Peacocks struggled defensively at the bottom of the third giving the Hawks three runs. Saint Peter's then answered back with three runs of their own by a Luke Schwartz's double to right field giving him two RBIs from D'Alessio and Josh Bullock running to home plate. Monmouth took the lead back with two more runs ending the fourth inning at 6-7.
SPU would put up two more runs in the fifth and sixth inning while holding Monmouth to zero runs.
In the seventh inning, Saint Peter's erupted for 10 runs. It started with a Steve Polizzi single that gave Chase Fogg time to score, followed by a triple with bases loaded from D'Alessio that brought in Doninger, Polizzi, and Aidan Forrest. D'Alessio later scored on a wild pitch before Azarieh doubled to left, driving in Alex Manent and Schwartz. Azarieh and Bobby Lavely then scored on a Forrest single, and Fogg finished off the inning by scoring on another wild pitch.
The Hawks would try to mount a comeback by adding three runs to the box score ending the inning at 17- 10 with Saint Peter's holding a substantial lead.
The Peacocks would close out the game with two more runs from a Manent single up the middle and a Lavely single up center field adding to what was a strong outing for Saint Peter's. Monmouth would go on to add two more runs but were unable to hold the momentum ending the game at 19-10.
