JERSEY CITY, NJ– The Saint Peter's softball team (6-29) fell 9-5 and 3-1 to Wagner (16-22) in a Tuesday doubleheader at Jaroschak Field.
Ava White went 5.2 innings in game one, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while striking out two.
Cessi Prince (0-2) was credited with the loss in relief, allowing four earned runs without recording an out.
Ava Mormile added 1.1 innings of relief, giving up three hits and striking out one.
Saint Peter's combined for nine hits in the opener, with three Peacocks recording two hits apiece.
Lauren Czerwinski paced the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, adding two runs, two RBIs, a double, and her first collegiate home run.
In the nightcap,
Brielle Coppola (1-10) made the start, pitching a complete game while tying her season high with six strikeouts and allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
The Peacocks were limited to three hits in game two, with
Danni Forrester launching her third home run of the season and accounting for the only RBI.
Paige Seemon added her seventh double of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Ava White retired the first six Wagner batters, needing just 20 pitches through the first two innings.
Saint Peter's struck first in the second, as
Olivia Christopher led off with a single and advanced on a pair of one-out hit-by-pitches.
Lauren Czerwinski lifted a sacrifice fly to left to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.
Wagner responded in the third, using a pair of singles, stolen bases, and productive outs to take a 2-1 advantage. Saint Peter's answered in the bottom half, as
Paige Seemon doubled and
Carlee Charles singled–both to left– before an infield hit by Christopher tied the game at 2-2.
The Peacocks regained the lead in the fourth. A one-out walk to
Summer Solitaria and a Czerwinski double set the table, and a single from
Hannah Klotz, combined with a Wagner error, pushed Saint Peter's ahead 4-2.
Wagner broke the game open in the sixth with a seven-run inning. After tying the game at 4-4, four consecutive walks gave the Seahawks a 6-4 lead. An additional walk and an infield single brought in three more runs to extend the advantage to 9-4.
Czerwinski answered with her first collegiate home run in the bottom half, cutting the deficit to 9-5. The Peacocks put two runners on with no outs later in the inning but were unable to capitalize.
Wagner threatened again in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but
Kiana Kadena Matsuda recorded a fielder's choice to end the inning. Saint Peter's went down in order in the bottom half, sealing the 9-5 final.
GAME TWO
Brielle Coppola held Wagner hitless through the first three innings, retiring the side in both the second and third. The Peacocks managed just one hit through the first three frames, with
Angela Tremarco singling to right in the second.
Wagner threatened in the fourth with runners on second and third and no outs, but Coppola worked out of the jam with a groundout, strikeout, and flyout.
Saint Peter's broke through in the fifth, as
Danni Forrester launched a two-out solo home run to center to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.
Wagner answered in the sixth, using a two-out double and single to tie the game at 1-1.
In the seventh, the Seahawks took control with a leadoff double, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI single to go ahead 2-1. A passed ball and another infield hit added an insurance run to make it 3-1.
Saint Peter's was retired in order in the final frame, securing the sweep for Wagner.

The Peacocks hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Lafayette on Wednesday, April 15, at Lafayette Softball Field in Easton, Pennsylvania. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., with game two to follow at 4 p.m.
