NIAGARA FALLS, NY– The Saint Peter's softball team (7-33, 3-19 MAAC) concluded its series with Niagara (4-28, 3-16 MAAC) with a 7-6 loss Saturday morning at Niagara Softball Field.
Ava White made the start in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing five runs—three earned—on seven hits.
Gabriella Rivera (1-5) came on in relief and was credited with the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits. The Peacocks committed three errors defensively.
Offensively, Saint Peter's tallied seven hits, with
Paige Seemon leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance and a pair of RBIs.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Peacocks struck first in the opening inning.
Kiana Kadena Matsuda drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a
Paige Seemon single to right-center.
Carlee Charles followed with an RBI fielder's choice to give Saint Peter's a 1-0 lead.
Niagara answered in the bottom half, using a walk, a fielder's choice, and back-to-back singles to even the score at 1-1.
Saint Peter's regained the lead in the second. Walks from
Angelina Wagner and
Hannah Klotz, along with a single from
Lauren Czerwinski, loaded the bases. Two wild pitches brought in runs, and Kadena Matsuda added an RBI single to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Ava White settled in from there, holding Niagara to just three hits between the second and fifth innings, including a clean second inning.
The Peacocks added to their lead in the sixth. A trio of walks loaded the bases with one out,
Kayla Foy drove in a run with a bunt, and Seemon followed with a two-RBI single to push the lead to 6-1.
Niagara responded with a six-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-6 lead.
Saint Peter's threatened in the seventh, highlighted by a one-out double from
Angela Tremarco, but Niagara recorded the final two outs to secure the win.

The Peacocks return to action with a non-conference doubleheader against Army at the Army Softball Complex in West Point, NY, on April 22. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., with game two to follow at 5 p.m.
