LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Saint Peter's (5-46, 1-27 MAAC) fell in game two of their final series of the season against Rider (29-17, 21-8 MAAC) on Friday at Sonny Pittaro Field.
James Ellis got the start for the Peacocks, throwing six innings while allowing six hits and three earned runs with one strikeout.
Bobby Lavely led the way offensively for Saint Peter's, going 3-for-5 with an RBI, while
Max Doninger added two hits and an RBI.
Alex Manent also contributed with a double and an RBI in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rider got on the board early with a run in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI double to right center.Â
The Warriors added another run in the second inning with a double down the left field line, extending their lead to 2-0.
Saint Peter's responded in the top of the third inning as Manent doubled down the left field line, bringing
Louis D'Alessio home. Lavely
followed with a single to right field to score Manent and tie the game at 2-2.
However, Rider regained the lead in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a fielder's choice and a single to bring in two runs and make it 4-2.
The Peacocks looked to rally late in the game, as Doninger singled to center field in the top of the eighth, allowing
Luke Schwartz to score and cut the deficit to just one.
Saint Peter's was unable to complete the comeback effort in the final inning, falling to Rider by a score of 3-4.
