Peacocks Fall Short To Le Moyne Dolphins, Look To Secure First Road Win This Thursday

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Saint Peter's women's soccer team had a hard fought battle at Jaroschak Field this afternoon. Unfortunately, their efforts weren't enough, and they fell 1-2 against the Le Moyne Dolphins.

The Dolphins secured their first win of the 2026 season, improving their record to 1-5.

WHAT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF:

In the opening two minutes of play, junior Peacock (1-3) defender Melissa Pires registered a shot that went top left. The Dolphins (1-5) opened the scoring early in the 6th minute after a corner kick. Giana Cutuli assisted Kaitlyn Gilhooly. There was a brief scramble in the six yard box before Cutuli netted the goal.

Saint Peter's struggled offensively in the first 15 minutes of play as they looked for an equalizer.

The Le Moyne Dolphins registered a shot on goal that was saved by freshman goalkeeper Lily Sarris. The save deflected for a Dolphin corner kick, which sailed into the box and deflected out of bounds for another corner kick.

The second Dolphin corner kick resulted in a goal that was scored by Emma Sousa and assisted by Giana Cutuli. This was Cutuli's second assist of the game.

In the 36th minute, the Peacocks had a strong opportunity where Sophomore forward Azsa Leighton struck the ball on net. However, the shot wasn't enough for the Peacocks to get on the scoreboard.

The Peacocks went into the half with a 0-2 deficit. The Dolphins led 5-3 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks.

SECOND HALF:
The Peacocks started the second half with more authority than the first and had a stronger presence in the Dolphins' final third. Sophomore forward Mayla McLean registered a shot on goal that went just wide.

In the 50th minute, Freshman forward Elise Viggiano found the back of the net after a scrap in the six yard box. Mayla McLean had the assist. The Peacocks now only trailed by one goal. They registered 11 shots in the second half, compared to Le Moyne's two. Eight of those shots were on goal.

Ultimately, it was not enough to break through and level the game.

UP NEXT:
The Peacocks will remain in New Jersey and head to West Orange this coming Thursday, September 3 to take on the Seton Hall Pirates at Owen T. Carroll Field. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
