JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's cross country team finished its first meet of the season this Wednesday when the Peacocks faced the FDU College Knights in a duel match 3k and 5k race.
Both men's and women's teams competed in a highly competitve race, with the women going for 3k meters and the men running 5k meters. The lone standout Peacock performance on from the male runners came in from junior
Johan Aparicio who placed atop the leaderboard for Saint Peter's and third overall with a time of 16 minutes and 52 seconds. The women's side was spearheaded by three top five finishers.
Zayneb Zahibi came in fifth overall with a time of 14 minutes and five seconds.
Mya Sampong made the medal stand with a 3rd place finish and a time of 13 minutes and 31 seconds. And coming in first place with a sensational debut was freshman
Alhena Delcerri who ran a time of 12 minutes and 42 seconds, the only female runner to go under 13 minutes in the competition.
Other highlight performances for the Peacocks came from another three top 10 finishers on the men's side, with
Kenneth Montes,
Michael Amaker, and
Matthew Martinez all reaching the top 10.
