Saint Peter's University Athletics

Chas Sarlund

Chas Sarlund, who boasts over 20 years as a head golf professional, was named the head coach of the Saint Peter's University men's golf program in September of 2019-20.

Sarlund concluded his second season with the program during the 2020-21 academic year, one that was heavily affected by the COVID-19, coronavirus pandemic. After the fall season was canceled, Sarlund guided the Peacocks through four events during the spring of 2021, including the 2021 MAAC Championships.

The Peacocks performed admirably despite the pandemic heavily restricting their practice time together, and despite only being able to send a trio of student-athletes to the conference championships in April, Sarlund's squad ended the year on a high note with an inspiring showing at the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, highlighted by one student-athlete finishing one spot out of an all-conference position.

Sarlund hit the ground running during his first fall in Jersey City, helping the Peacocks perform admirably in an abbreviated 2019-20 campaign that ultimately was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the program enjoyed stellar results both on the team and individual fronts in the fall of 2019, highlighted by graduating senior captain Stanley Garrant '20 earning MAAC Golfer of the Month honors in September while the team boasted top-10 finishes at four of the five tournaments it competed in with three top-five placements and one victory. Finally, the program nearly had perfect representation on the MAAC Men's Golf All-Academic Team with five honorees.

A PGA member since 1995, Sarlund has managed exceptional golf experiences at golf clubs in both New Jersey and Michigan over the last 22 years. He has established successful coaching and instructional programs designed to turn junior golfers into future leaders. He has also served as the host professional at USGA, AJGA, NJPGA, NJSGA, MGA and Ivy League Tournaments.

Most recently, Sarlund serves as the Director of Golf Operations at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, New Jersey. Among his chief responsibilities, he manages an 18-hole, semi-private club while reporting directly to ownership, overseeing all teaching and coaching programs, memberships, golf outings and personnel. He also is responsible for marketing and promotions, as well as the club's operating budgets.

Sarlund has enjoyed prior stints as the head golf professional at three different venues prior to Fox Hollow. He spent nearly six years at Royce Brook Golf Club in Hillsborough, New Jersey, which followed a nearly decade-long tenure in the same role at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club (Far Hills, N.J.). Finally, before his nearly two-decade run in the Garden State began, his first head golf professional post was at Partridge Creek Golf Club in Michigan, lasting just over five years.

In addition to his PGA membership, Sarlund is a Member of the Professional Golfers Association of America and a past president of the Southern Chapter and past Board of Director for the Michigan PGA. He is the founder of the Professional Golf Management Open, an annual tournament based in Orlando, Florida, held during the week of the PGA Show for graduates and current students.

Sarlund currently resides in New Providence, New Jersey, with his wife, Susie, children, Meghan and Charlie, and their dog, Bogey.
