Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Grab Wins over Manhattan at NJIT Invitational

Results

NEWARK, NJ – The Saint Peter's University men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded the opening weekend at the Highlander Invitational on Saturday. Both the men and women defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Manhattan, to start the 2019-20 MAAC campaign 1-0. The men's team also enjoyed more success, by topping St. Francis Brooklyn in the meet as well.

Top Performances

·       Junior Andrew Galarza had an impressive weekend, dominating the freestyle races with three top-two finishes. Galarza finished second in the 100 Free with a time of 47.03, second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:45.47, and first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:46.07.

·       An essential swimmer in the women's' performance was Junior Marie Geck. She finished fourth in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:15.64, and fifth in the 500 Free and 1000 Free with times of 5:25.67 and 11:08.91 respectively. 

·       Freshman Noah Berlin made his collegiate debut this weekend, with three top finishes. In the 1000 Free, he finished in fourth-place with a time of 10:08.66. He also finished fifth in the 500 Free with a time of 4:50.53 and tied for sixth in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.69.

·       In addition to Galarza the men had two more top-five finishes in the 100 Yard Free. Jhonny Perez finished third with a time of 47.27, and Yann LE Gall finished fourth with a time of 47.53.

Up Next
Both teams will enjoy a roughly month-long respite before gearing up for a home dual meet against both Kean University and Manhattan on Saturday, Nov. 9.
