Dear Friends of Saint Peter's Athletics:
As I conclude my first and very exciting week in Jersey City, I want to begin by extending a heartfelt thank you for your incredibly warm welcome to Peacock Nation. My husband, Tim and I are so excited to be here and are looking forward to an incredible future with Saint Peter's Athletics!
I want to begin by recognizing and congratulating our men's soccer program and Coach
Julian Richens for winning the 2019 MAAC Regular Season championship! The team finished the season with the best conference record (9-1) in program history. In addition, we had seven men's soccer student-athletes receive All-MAAC accolades, highlighted by Dominic Laws being named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and Coach Richens being named the MAAC Coach of the Year. The team lost a hard-fought match to Iona in the title game on Sunday, but all of us here are so proud of what the team accomplished this year and know a bright future lies ahead for our men's soccer program.
I also want to highlight our most recent Student-Athletes of the Month, Kaylah Davis from women's cross country and Dominic Laws from men's soccer. Kaylah finished her rookie cross country season as one of the Peacocks' top performers, finishing as the team's top runner at the Highlander Cross Country Challenge, Metropolitan Championshipsand the MAAC Championships. On top of his conference accolades, Dominic was the team's top offensive performer all season long, and led the team and MAAC in shots, points, points per game, and goals over his 10 matches played in the month. Kaylah and Dominic truly encompass what it means to be a Peacock and are tremendous representatives of both their respective programs, and of our entire department. We are all so proud of their accomplishments!
As we transition from fall sports to winter sports, I want to congratulate our men's and women's swimming & diving programs for winning their home opener. The men dominated the event with first-place wins in 14 out of 15 races, while the women secured both dual meet wins by comfortable margins. All of Peacock Nation looks forward to watching their success the rest of this season!
The ultimate goal for all of our programs is to consistently compete for MAAC Championships while continuing to thrive in the classroom. With that, it's important to mention that between all of our fall sports we had 30 student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. I'm incredibly proud of the work our student-athletes, coaches and staff put towards building our culture of excellence both on and off the field.
Finally, I wanted to thank all of Peacock Nation for your continued loyalty and generosity. I also want to thank all those who have purchased basketball season tickets and all of our fans who helped pack the Yanitelli Center for our men's basketball home opener. We look forward to seeing you all again on November 26
th when the women's team opens their home season!
I look forward to meeting as many of our fans and alumni as possible in the coming months. Together our hard work will help our student-athletes and athletic program reach new heights!
Go Peacocks!
