JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's University Athletics has announced that women's cross country freshman
Kaylah Davis and men's soccer junior
Dominic Laws have been named Student-Athletes of the Month.
Davis, a true freshman and Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, native, capped off a stellar debut season in the cross country circuit this past weekend at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, where she once again was the top runner for the Peacocks despite her rookie status. Davis' month began with a 32nd-place performance at the Highlander Cross Country Challenge, her best placement of the season. She averaged a 6:15.2 mile and finished the 5K race in under 20 minutes (19:25.69). A week later, at the Metropolitan Championships, Davis finished in the top-60 after posting a 5K time of 21:17.9 with a sub-seven-minute mile split and an average kilometer time of 4:15.6. Finally, Davis capped off her rookie cross country campaign with a time of 25:48.23 at the league championships this past weekend, averaging a sub-seven-minute mile in the 6K race. Davis finished just outside the top-100 in 102nd place overall in the women's circuit and will now turn her attention to the track & field season, which gets underway in just about a month.
Laws continued his already impressive junior campaign with an outstanding month of October. The Sunderland, England native led the team and MAAC in shots, points, points per game, and goals over his 10 matches played in the month. Additionally, Laws ranked second league-wide in shots per games and goals per game, while posting the seventh best assists totals amongst the conference. Laws along with the entire men's soccer team enjoyed an unprecedented season, capping off the 2019 ledger with the program's first MAAC Regular Season title since 2010. The men won a program-record, nine straight league games in October and the team's 9-1-0 conference record was the best ever for a Saint Peter's team.
