JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's University softball program and head coach
Chris Stelma have announced the team's 2020 schedule. The Peacocks' upcoming campaign will consist of 55 games, which include 24 home games at Jaroschak Field. Included in that slate are a pair of early-season tournaments both in California and Virginia.
The upcoming season will feature the most games played at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field in the history of the program. The schedule will consist of 35 non-conference games, while MAAC play will feature an even split of 10 home and 10 away games.
"We are excited for our 2020 season to open and get underway," said Stelma. "We start off with a nice trip out west to get in some warmer weather and our early-season schedule is against some stiff competition, which should give us an edge going into conference play. We look forward to continuing to get better each time we step on the field."
The Peacocks will open their 2020 campaign with a trip to Santa Barbara, California, to participate in the Gaucho Classic from Feb. 29 to March 1. The team will play UC Santa Barbara and Portland State on the first day of competition, followed by a game against Bradley and a rematch with UC Santa Barbara on the final day of the tournament.
Saint Peter's will then return to the east coast to play a doubleheader at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) on March 4 before heading to Virginia to compete in the Hampton/Norfolk Tournament. The Peacocks will play Delaware and host Hampton on March 6 before traveling to Norfolk to play Drexel and host Norfolk State on March 7; the team concludes the tournament with a game against UMBC a day later.
Following the Hampton/Norfolk Tournament, the Peacocks will play six games on the road before returning to Jersey City for their home opener against Delaware State on March 11. The game against the Hornets will mark the beginning of a 10-game homestand, which will conclude with a doubleheader against Drexel on March 31. Saint Peter's will open conference play during this stretch, hosting Niagara and Canisius on March 28 and 29, respectively. After a doubleheader at nearby Seton Hall on April 1, the Peacocks will travel to hOURglass rivals Rider and Monmouth on April 4-5.
To round out the season, the Peacocks will enjoy another 10 game homestand from April 22 through May 2, facing off against UMES, Coppin State, Quinnipiac, Hartford and Manhattan. The program's final series of the regular season will take them across the Hudson, as the Peacocks conclude their 2020 campaign with two games against Iona on May 3.
