A Letter from Head Baseball Coach Lou Proietti

Dear Saint Peter's University Baseball Community,

My name is Lou Proietti, and I am excited to introduce myself to you as the new head baseball coach at Saint Peter's University. It has been an incredible three months in Jersey City for the Saint Peter's baseball program! I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to both challenge and support our student-athletes on a daily basis. Our theme this fall revolved around "attitude" and "effort" and I am very happy with the strides we have made as a program over the last couple of months. Our staff has been putting in long hours as we continue to develop our current roster, while also hitting the recruiting trail to find the type of talented and hardworking players that can help our program compete for a MAAC Championship.

I am very fortunate to have learned from some outstanding mentors and programs in my journey leading up to Saint Peter's. For the past four seasons, I served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. Prior to Stonehill, I worked as an assistant coach at Rider University and that experience in the MAAC has been extremely helpful when it comes to talent evaluation and understanding what to expect this spring. My coaching career started at Georgetown Preparatory School in Maryland. Throughout my career, I have been very lucky to work with, and more importantly learn from, over 60 MLB draft picks and 5 big leaguers. In November, our team had the chance to hear from current San Diego Padres pitcher Nick Margevicius who spoke about priorities and decisions throughout the course of their lives.

It is my goal to be actively available to you, the fans and alumni, as we work together to build our program up to a level that competes consistently for a MAAC Championship. Please feel free to reach out via phone, email or in person anytime, as your feedback and input is not only welcomed but encouraged. I am a firm believer that it will take a combined effort from everyone involved to take this program to new heights.  As you may know, recruiting is the lifeblood of any quality program. For this reason, I am asking for your feedback if you know of any potential recruits in your area that could compete at our level and who you think would be a great fit as a Peacock.

At the beginning of January we released our full 2020 schedule, which can be found here. We open up on February 14 at Georgia Tech and are very excited about the opportunity to play in Atlanta. If any of our away games are near you this spring, I want to personally invite you to come join us and meet me, the coaching staff and some of our players. Fan support on the road is crucial and we will do our best to make sure your tickets are taken care of. Any former student-athlete knows that the away trips we took gave us some of our fondest memories with our fellow teammates, and I want to try and provide the best possible experience for our players so they too can have these memories to look back on.

We have a great deal of work ahead of us in order to reach our goal of winning a MAAC Championship. We are excited about the opportunity that lies ahead and have begun to establish a set of standards and expectations that are required to compete at this level. Thank you for your support and please know we are doing everything we can to make Saint Peter's Baseball the type of program you can be proud of.

Finally, I want to make you aware of our First Pitch Luncheon on Sunday, February 9 in The Duncan Family Sky Room located in the Mac Mahon Student Center. This event is a great way to kick start our season and is open to all alumni, friends, family and fans. More information can be found at SaintPetersPeacocks.com/FirstPitch – I hope you can join us!

Go Peacocks!
