New Haven, Conn.- The Saint Peter's University track and field teams commenced their indoor circuit at the Yale Season Opener meet on Saturday. In addition to facing the host Yale Bulldogs, the teams competed against several strong programs from across the region. On the individual front, several Peacocks on both sides enjoyed strong performances on the day to start the 2019-20 season on a high note.
Top Performances: Men
- Freshman Jarrett Gentles won the 400 meter finals, clocking in 50.29 seconds to highlight one of two individual race wins on the men's side. He owns the second-fastest time in the MAAC as of the conclusion of Saturday's event.
- Gentles was also part of a 4x400-meter relay team that tied for fourth alongside freshmen Rayshawn Johnson, Isaiah Sanchez and Jayaire King. The former ran an incredible 49-second split to help the Peacocks place in the top-four.
- The Peacocks dominated the 60-meter hurdles race, as four SPU freshmen took the top-four spots in the event led by rookie Josiah Kemp, who won it in 8.18 seconds. He was followed by Johnson in 8.38, Kyle Estivene in 8.66, and King in 8.68.
- Sanchez was fourth overall and sophomore Daniel Jn-Baptiste was fifth overall in the 200 meters finals in a field of nearly 20 competitors. Sanchez finished in 22.89 seconds, while Jn-Baptiste was across the line at 22.90 seconds.
- Freshman Clardo Nestor came in the top-five overall in the 1,000-meters finals with a final time of 2:41.69.
Top Performances: Women
- Senior Avosuahi Albert won the 400-meter finals with a time of 58.13 seconds in impressive fashion, good for the second-best time in the MAAC as of Saturday.
- She was also part of a sixth-place 4x400-meter relay team thanks to her amazing 57-second split in that race.
- Freshman Kaylah Davis debuted with a dominant showing in the 800-meter race, winning the event in a time of 2:31.45.
- Senior Ohunene Albert had the third fastest time overall in the 200-meters finals. She finished in 25.83 seconds in a field of over 30 competitors. She also was a top-four finisher in the 60-meter dash, as well.
